Jason's Tonils

Jason and I had been nursing 4 years to the day when he had his tonsils and adenoids removed. We weren't "allowed " to nurse until he could hold down...Sprite of all things! In recovery, he begged to nurse and when he tried, it must have been just too painful, " No milk." he whispered. I knew there was plenty of milk, I am also nursing 14 month old Jesse.

When we got home some fours hours later, I tried unsuccessfully to get him to nurse. He lay his little face against the bare skin of my breast. Tears welled up in his vacant eyes. I saw his mouth quiver and his small hand rubbed the skin of my breast. He fell asleep. Late that evening I was able to get him to nurse for about 30 minutes. I felt our strike was over.

The next day, I fully expected us to nurse away the pain. My poor little boys was not able to. We spent much of the day with his tiny cheek pressed against the skin of my breast. Again, I saw his tears and the longing of his sweet comfort. I admired his ability to watch his baby brother nurse, when he could not. By the end of day two I was sure he would wean do to the pain. I had started to think I had just dreamed it was him nursing, when it really must have been Jesse.

By day four I was able to get him to nurse a little with the most luck in the dead of night, cuddled in our family bed.

I'm happy to say it has been 13 days since Jason's surgery, and he has just come in and asked to "nurse". Sweet boy, allow my breast to bring you comfort. Your little face and gentle nursing makes my heart sing out in joy. It gives me a new view on just how precious our nursing is.
